Description:
Adult: Body laterally flattened, discoid in profile, upper body usually tawny yellow above and paler below with 5/ 6 dark brown vertical bars. Possibly a further bar on terminal caudal peduncle.
Juvenile: Black and blue spot on operculum above pectoral fin
Ecology
Prefer high energy rocks or limestone shorelines in regions with surf (cf Sergeant Major). Feed mainly on algae but adults also consume Zoanthus and hydroids while juveniles also feed on copepods
Life Cycle:
Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding. Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate. Males guard and aerate the eggs
