Description:
Body silvery red, with orangish gold body stripes. Eyes large. Rear dorsal fin pronounced and sticking up. Long anal fin with a markedly elongated third spine.. 2 rows of white patches on yellow dorsal fin. Dorsal fin tips white, with further white blotches from dorsal spine 3 onwards, with yellow band between. Yellow vertical bar on rear of operculum. Juveniles are thin, silvery pelagics and seldom seen.
Ecology
A nocturnal reef-associated fish. It feeds mainly on shrimps but also takes crabs. Found at depths 5 to 120m. Through most of its range is usually found at deeper depths from 60m..
