Note:
The species in the genus Eucinostomus are extremely similar and can be difficult to distinguish visually (Bigeye/ Flagfin/ Spotfin/ Mottled, Silver Jenny etc).
Description:
Large eye extends from upper lip to nape. Bright silver, occasionally with 6 faint bars on back. Front of spinous dorsal fin has black tip, but lacking the white lower border (cf usual form of the Flagfin Mojarra).
Ecology
A demersal species occuring in brackish to marine waters, usually shallower than 10m (30ft), usually over vegetated sand ground and mud bottoms in mangrove-lined tidal creeks and tide pools. It may form feeding aggregations, most likely on small benthic invertebrates.
