Description:
Tan to greenish brown, with upper body and sides usually mottled, with
widely spaced narrow pale bars. Main body ridges often with spines. May have pale diamond markings along flank. 2 dark stripes behind eye.

Ecology
Typically found in shallow seagrass beds and mixed algal beds. Little is known about their feeding ecology, but they are likely to feed on small benthic and/or pelagic crustaceans such as harpacticoid copepods, gammarid shrimp, and mysids similar to other pipefishes.

Life Cycle:
Female deposits her eggs in a pouch on the males "chest", where he fertlizes them. Males carry the eggs in a brood pouch under the tail.
